Alex Gonzaga grew up in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. At age 9, he started dancing at his local ballet school where he had his first encounters with ballet, jazz, tap, and partnering. At age 12 he decided to join the Escola Estadual de Dancas Maria Olenewa, one of the most prestigious ballet schools in Brazil. As a student there, he had the opportunity to perform with the dancers of the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro and to be a part of national ballet competitions. At age 15 he moved to the US to pursue his dream to become a professional ballet dancer. Alex spent 2 years at The Harid Conservatory, where he immersed himself in ballet and studied classical Russian technique. At The Harid Conservatory, Alex received the Rudolf Nureyev Award in 2010 for his excellence. In 2011 as a senior at The Harid Conservatory Alex participated in the Youth American Grand Prix where he made it to the national finals in NYC. After graduating from The Harid Conservatory Alex joined the Atlanta Ballet and had the opportunity to work with many world-renowned choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, David Bentley, John McFall, Ohad Naharin, Helen Pickett. While at the Atlanta Ballet, Alex also discovered his love for teaching. He’s had the pleasure of sharing his expertise and helping hundreds of students of all ages and levels achieve their goals. Alex believes in Terminus’ mission and is thrilled to be a part of the team and share his lifelong experience and passion with the new generation of dancers.
